hort-i-tude n. a state of mind, strength of feeling towards horticulture, determination, fortitude in business, leadership growth, success, perseverance.
The Horticulture New Zealand Conference 2010 was held in Auckland, on August 4 - 5, at Sky City Convention Centre.
The theme was "Hortitude". What does hortitude mean? It means challenging the industry (including HortNZ) to consider what state of mind we all need to make sure we reach the industry goal of $10 billion in value by 2020.
Leaders from New Zealand's farming, commercial, science and technology sectors spoke about what they thought 'hortitude' is, and how we need to use it to get to the industry goal.
Speakers included former Telecom New Zealand boss and wool industry leader Theresa Gattung, and the chief executive of ZESPRI International, Lain Jager.
More than 500 delegates attended, half of them growers, the rest industry suppliers, supporters, regulators and sponsors. The HortNZ conference also features a strong industry presence as trade exhibitors – more than 25 of them in 2010.
The HortNZ conference aims to showcase the industry to the rest of New Zealand and the international horticulture industry.
