New Zealand's horticulture exports have grown from $NZ100 million in 1980 to $NZ2.2 billion in 2008. Total area of only 90,000 hectares is used for horticulture crops. Including domestic sales, the horticulture industry is valued at $NZ5 billion, and it employs 50,000 people in eight key growing regions.



Over the past 20 years, horticulture exports have grown from $NZ 200 million to $NZ 2.2 billion. The area of horticultural crops has also increased 40% to 121,000 ha in just over 10 years. Including domestic sales, the horticulture industry is worth $NZ 4.7 billion - making it New Zealand’s sixth largest export industry.
