Omicron update #7 - RATs - ordering and what to do if you have a positive test

16 February 2022

Please note: this is our understanding of how RATs can be ordered and used, as at 16 February 2022.  We are in discussions with Government officials about improvements to the approach.  We will update you if there are changes or developments.

Ordering

The Government has now stood up the RATs ordering and distribution system.

Critical workers who are identified as close contacts and are vaccinated and asymptomatic can access RATs to be able to go to work. The business must be registered with the Close Contact Exemption scheme and the exemption only applies to going to work, not other travel.  Also, the form must be completed by the worker, not the business.

Please note in some areas, it would appear that RATs are not available yet but we expect that situation to change.

Also please note that to order RATs at the present time, you need to be a vaccinated Critical Worker and you need to be confirmed by the Ministry of Health or your local District Health Board as a Close Contact.

What to do if you have a positive test

The Ministry of Health flow chart steps you through what you need to do if you or one of your workers has a positive RAT test.

Clarity

There is a lot of information available from the different Government agencies about the management of Omicron and that information is updated and changed regularly.
We will continue to send you the most up to date information at regular intervals, once we have checked the information and if it is unclear, gained clarity.

Stay connected

I’ve heard some great stories about where growers have supported each other.  Please continue to stay connected over the coming weeks of uncertainty.
