Prime Minister praises the horticulture industry

08 Apr 2020

In her daily COVID-19 press conference, the Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern took the time to praise the horticulture industry for continuing to feed New Zealanders, export produce overseas, and provide New Zealanders who are out of work as a result of COVID-19 with jobs, particularly in the kiwifruit and apple industries.

The Prime Minister also spoke about the important role that Recognised Seasonal Employer (RSE) workers play in our industry, and acknowledged the impact of Tropical Cyclone Harold on Vanuatu and workers and their families from there.

Earlier in the day, the Minister of Agriculture, Damien O’Connor issued a press release, acknowledging the horticulture industry in much the same way that the Prime Minister’s done.

This press release was picked up by several television, radio, newspaper and online media channels.
