Helping growers access the crop protection tools they need
29 May 2025
HortNZ is leading the horticultural industry’s response to the Ministry for Regulation’s review of agricultural and horticultural product regulations – a process that will directly impact growers’ access to crop protection products. This is a critical issue for our sector.
Ensuring growers can access the tools they need to produce high-quality fruit and vegetables – for both New Zealand consumers and export markets – has been a major focus for HortNZ over the past year, and it will remain a top priority in 2025.
HortNZ is actively working with the Ministry for the Environment (MfE) and the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) on the development of the HSNO and ACVM omnibus bill. We are advocating for legislative changes that will improve the efficiency of the system and ensure timely access to essential crop protection products. This work includes close collaboration with the ACVM team at MPI, the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), and industry product groups.
