HortNZ independent director Murray Denyer to step down after six years
5 November 2026
Horticulture New Zealand (HortNZ) independent director Murray Denyer is stepping down from the board after six years.
“Murray has made a significant contribution to the HortNZ board,” says board chair Bernadine Guilleux.
“As a lawyer, he has worked across the horticulture industry for many years, including as general counsel for Zespri. Before that, he was a diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. He cares deeply about horticulture, and the board has benefited from his legal expertise, his broad understanding of trade and of the sector.
“He has brought his knowledge, skills and passion for the industry to the table during a time of significant change and progress for commercial horticulture in New Zealand.”
Outside HortNZ, Denyer was a former director of Rockit Global. He has also supported early-stage investing through his involvement in Investment Angels Tauranga.
He began his third three-year term on the HortNZ board at the organisation’s AGM in July 2026. Denyer is stepping down for health reasons.
The board will soon invite applications for an independent director to fill the vacancy. The HortNZ board has two independent directors, who serve alongside seven grower-elected members.
